Time to decorate – the garden

Here at Ironmongery Online we keep saying spring is here in the hope that it will one day be true. But even without warmer weather the garden waits for no man (or woman) and it’s already time to start work to create a truly inspiring garden for spring, summer and autumn. We’ve added a great range of decorative garden items and planters to our online hardware range so we thought we could bring some useful tips on decorating the garden.

Garden ornaments are more than ornamental: they can help shape the outdoor space, add mood and tone as well as help you add depth and height. They work in tandem with your planting to create rich tones and stunning effects.  Many items can be used for effect – from specially designed items to older pieces either unused in the house or collected at car boots, and jumble sales.

You can use planters effectively to create specific areas within the garden. Patios are an obvious area but you can also create interest around paths or garden entrances. Choose a variety of shapes, sizes and styles and do the same with the plants – you will soon have a truly memorable addition to your landscape.

Outdoor lighting will help to create a different feel for the garden, and we have a range of candle and tea light holders which will allow you to add a truly magical yet subtle feeling of light. You can us the candles in seated areas or go a little further and create lighted areas around beds, planters or paths. As the summer light fades, the glow of the candle light can truly transform any garden. Check our range of wall sconces too – a beautiful and stylish way to bring candle light to courtyards, country gardens and walled areas.

Choose a range of garden furniture that suits your garden. Not every garden needs to look like something out of Downton Abbey. It is possible to create a contemporary and colourful look with some very inexpensive garden furniture that is ideal for urban or small gardens. Make the garden an extension of the style of your home; perhaps use decorative items that can link outside and inside together.

We really do hope that this will be a good summer for gardeners – and if you have any garden decoration ideas we’d love to hear from you.
