How To Fit a Door Handle
If you think that there’s a few door handles within your home that have seen better days. Skill rating : Beginner
If you think that there’s a few door handles within your home that have seen better days, or maybe you just fancy a change of style and fancy going antique, then follow this simple step by step guide and you will have shiny new ones… It’s really not that hard.
This is arguably the most difficult task. Loosen the handle by removing any screws that are on the cover plate. If there are no screws on the cover plate then there should be a slot with a little piece of metal sticking out, use a small piece of metal such as the key from the new door handle to push the metal back in, this will loosen the door handle.
Simply pull the door handle off to reveal the plate below. Look for a gap in the plate along the seam where it butts against the door. Wedge a flathead screwdriver into the gap and then give the plate a half twist and it should just pop off.
With the plate removed you will see the screws you are to remove with the power drill. When they have been removed it’s time to tackle the latch and this is done by simply unscrewing this too.
To do this is quite simple you simply set the screws by hand then tighten them with the power drill, making sure not to screw them too tightly so as to bend the latch.
Place the knobs themselves and once again set the screws by hand, and finish by drilling. Also be careful not to over-tighten the screws or you'll bind the door handle.
When you feel the door handle is fastened sufficiently to the door, it’s simply a matter of checking to see whether you have successfully followed this guide. Just try the door handle and test the key and it should be fine.
